This bug is still present in 11.10 and with the switch from gconf to
dconf, the above workaround no longer works as the "actions" setting is
not present.

Here also the same behaviour with a Acer Travelmate C110.
Even if I set the 'close lid' to 'blank screen' after disconnection of the AC
power the laptop will go in suspend mode.

Okay, so after testing with different live CDs, it seems the problem
goes at least as far back as Hardy (I don't have any older Ubuntu discs
to test with), so ignore my comment about this bug starting with Karmic.

Just an observation: it appears that when disconnecting the AC power,
the power manager thinks that the laptop lid is closed, which is why it
goes into suspend. If I set the lid close action to "blank screen" when
running on battery, then the power manager blanks the screen upon
disconnection of t
