You probably had a running instance of an openoffice tool (quickstart in
systray or a zombie instance of ooo ?) In this situation ooo upgrade
asks you to close any running OOo application (including quickstarter).
Because you are running a noninteractive upgrade, debconf can't display
the dialog

Colin: I had just switched on my laptop when this happened, I did not
start any upgrade prog yet. But usually I use the update-manager (which
might have started automatically).
