Happens to me, too. Every day. In different situations. Compiz exits and
gnome falls back to metacity standard WM and I find this in dmesg:

I'm using my laptop the same

Karmic amd64, during the night with all apps minimised, so only the
screensaver was doing anything with the screen.

I experienced this crash, and I was not using Amarok at the time
(haven't launched it at all, actually. I had Chromium Browser open, and
had just closed a prompt to install additional language support after
upgrading to Karmic.
