I never touched the Software Center - I originally installed Eclipse
through apt-get, and encountered this problem.
Installing eclipse-pde solved this issue.

Thanks to Benjamin and Daniel. Those suggestions fixed this issue for
me. A simple "sudo apt-get install eclipse-plugin-cvs eclipse-jdt
eclipse-pde" and I was up and running again.

The problem seems to happen only when installing EclipseIDE from Ubuntu
"Software Center".
It somehow misses some packages needed to run plugin update properly.
Most notably "eclipse-pde".
Install it first by "apt-get install eclipse-pde"
(It will install cvs plugin , jdt , default jdk etc als

Wanted to confirm on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS same problem, and after following
suggestions above and installing Eclipse from Synaptic rather than the
Ubuntu Software Center (which I believe also filled in installation for
eclipse-jdt and eclipse-pde) helped solve the problem. Thanks for the
tips guys!

Regarding my comment above, I tried Benjamin's suggestion to install
eclipse-plugin-cvs, which led me to learn that I also needed to install
these packages via apt-get too:
eclipse-jdt
eclipse-pde
Then new software installation worked! Thanks for the suggestion.

I installed Eclispe via the Ubuntu Software Centre, then attempted to
install several different addons, all getting the same error (after a

I just installed Eclipse from Synaptic on 10.04 and had the same
problem.

Hi! The installation by the Ubuntu Software Store does not include these
packages for Eclipse.
Remove it, and install the Eclipse from Synaptic.

Technically, the error when attempting to install FindBugs is:
session context was:(profile=PlatformProfile,
phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.provisional.p2.engine.phases.Install,
operand=null --> [R]org.eclipse.cvs 1.0.400.v201002111343,

I think this problem may have been reintroduced in Eclipse 3.5.2 on
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I'm running into the exact same 'The Artifact file

(http://findbugs.cs.umd.edu/eclipse) and Subclipse
(http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.6.x).
Confirmed, 3.5.1-0ubuntu7 now loads my dropins correctly on x86. Many
