I have to say that the error message is pretty cryptic would be nice
that is would say which update url I need to use. Even nicer would be
that there was a central repo like with ubuntu that would handle the
dependencies automatically

You need to install org.eclipse.wst.sse.ui (that's what the error
message says). org.eclipse.wst.sse.ui is provided by Web Tools Platform
[1] and not by the eclipse SDK.
