Ove Myhr's PPA version which was confirmed to fix the problem by

Well, we'll be updating to -intel 2.10 at some point for Lucid, which
should have the fix that's in the xorg-edgers git snapshot currently, so
I guess we can consider this bug "in progress".
If folks would like to see this solved in Karmic, the step to take would
be to git-bisect the -intel packag
