Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development
release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It

The XServer seems to have something to do with this problem. As soon as
I shut down the X Server, I can get audio again. It also is fixed if I
move to a terminal (CTRL+F1,F2,etc) from the graphical interface.

This seemed to fix it; at least for now. This patch should be put in as
a suggested driver under Hardware drivers so that people who have
similar problems will know to install it. I am marking this bug as Fix
committed.
