What I described before happens with XAA acceleration (the default in
Karmic for my card). If I choose EXA instead everything looks fine. The
problem is that EXA is painfully slow with my card (ATI Radeon Mobility
M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]). So now it seems I have the choice between
