I'm hoping to submit this bug for the SRU process as I consider the fact
that KDE cannot shutdown when GDM is in control to be a major regression
and can severly impact the usability of a system when users are working
with different desktop environments.

Another aggravation caused by this bug is that one cannot select Sleep
or Hibernate, since they are submenus of the missing Shutdown button.

Just want to confirm this bug for Karmic and Lucid.
It is related to GDM, does not appear with KDM (at least for me).
Most likely the root cause can be found in the file kdisplaymanager.cpp
(formerly dmctl.cpp):

This bug affects me too. "kdesudo halt" works, however.

Same problem, and I've also noticed that I can't switch the user: in fact it
simply lock current session, but doesn't not start another session!
I've tried to use Lancelot, but it doesn't work too because it can't find the
display manager
