I think it should operate by looking at the font from the previous
character and switch to that font when insert special character is used.
That way it doesn't default to any specific font but to the current one
in use in the area of the document you are inserting the character into.

I can confirm this (annoying) behaviour. In my case I couldn't even
change the font when the special character was inserted in my document.
So I had a document in Times and special characters in Verdana (or the
likes). Is there a fix coming? I see this has already been reported in
