Public bug reported:

Release 9.10
Linux Kernel 2.6.31-14-generic
Hardware: HP Mini 110 netbook

Bug found when running "System Testing" application to speak into microphone.
The expected action is my speech played back. The observed action was no sound
played back. Note: CDs and system sounds play on this system, so the speakers
are able to get some input from the driver.
Ran test with both internal mic (which I am not sure exists) and external mic
plugged in

CheckboxData: I'm not sure there is a built-in microphone on this computer, so
I used a headset mic to run this test in addition to trying to run the test
normally. No sound either way.
CheckboxDescription:
Open the volume control application by right-clicking on the speaker icon in
the panel and selecting "Sound Preferences". Select the "Input" tab and choose
any alternate (non-default) device(s). Select the "Output" tab and choose any
alternate (non-default) device(s). When you are done, click the Test button,
then speak into the microphone. After a few seconds, your speech will be played
back to you.

Did you hear your speech played back?
