My problem was a ssh error:

So you're right. I uploaded my keys again and, oh wonder, it works. So
it's not longer a bug for me! :-)

I run into the same problem with Ubuntu 10.04. Seems to be only with
svn+ssh checkouts.

Subversion should always works fine on a linux system. Come on, we are
in 2010, those kind of bugs are not supposed to exist in a final
release. Pretty disappointing

I had exactly the same problem.
$ svn co svn+ssh://bfrankovs...@domenname:22/svn/project/
svn: Network connection closed unexpectedly.
I installed an older version (1.5.0):
$ svn co svn+ssh://bfrankovs...@domenname:22/svn/project/
ssh: Could not resolve hostname domenname:22: Name or service not
The real bug is the misleading error message.
