k3b is only a frontend to write programs. Which program has been used to write
to the medium and what error occurs?

Schily, you are right, even using the command cdrecord it also doesn't
work.
Not sure if it's a problem of my burner physically, because everything
works fine for my new burner.
I wouldn't bother to dig in the old burner.

I am not sure what happens, but looks like it works for some burners.
I did the following tests for k3b:
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D
not working for DVD+R disk
working for DVD+RW
working for any disk with k3b on Ubuntu 9.04.
Pioneer DVR-XD08
working for any disk

BTW, when insert the burnt disk in any dvd driver, dmesg shows this

cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
