i'm using maverick now, 10.10, and everything is working fine with my
atheros ar5100. perhaps this is occuring on older hardware? i have a
somewhat newer notebook (about 2 years old), core 2 duo 1.47Ghz (toshiba

What Atheros chipset does your DLINK card use?
What does lspci | grep Atheros and sudo lshw -C network tell you?
Have you made sure the problem doesn't occur when connected with wired
connection?
Have you tried on another wifi

I have the same card and quite the same problem!
Actually, my DWL-G520 works when it wants on Dapper 32 bits :
- sometimes it's connected to my network at startup and it works well
- sometimes i have to active my 'ath0' interface through network-admin and in
this case, sometimes it just works,

My Atheros wlan card connect to open access points great. I'm having no
luck using WEP. I've had to open my home wireless network.
I just can't get a IP address if I turn WEP on.
Let me know what info might help figure this out...
Cheers

Atheros based WLAN card stops responding
For my Toshiba M50-MX2 with Atheros AR5005G traffic hangs for 5 to 10 seconds
(packets are lost) and than it recovers by itself. Browsing gets a little
irritated as it gets stuck for every two or 3 pages loaded. ping shows this
probrem very well (30 to 40 % of UDPs are lost.
there is no report
