I have the same problem with intrepid, i have syncmaster 793DF and kde
applies the resolution (1280x1024) only for the current session as shown
in attachment, after restart it reverts back to 1024x768. X does not
detect my monitor as samsung but as VGA.

I too see this problem in dapper. My setup is an Inspiron E1705 w/
1920x1200 panel plus external 1280x1024 LCD monitor. X is always reset
to 1280x1024 on my laptop panel after logging in with kdm. Resizing it
in system settings works for the current session, but the resolution is
forgotten the
