The problem is that couchdb is setup to use the database directory
/var/lib/couchdb/0.10.0 (in /etc/couchdb/default.ini) that doesn't
exist!
after I created it manually and restarted, I could create databases.

I get this problem when I use Konqueror web browser to interact with
futon. It works fine with firefox

It works on a freshly installed Ubuntu Karmic (again AMD64). Maybe the
error is caused during my update from Jaunty to Karmic in the
(different) system I mentioned above. But in both systems I just
installed couchdb.

The problem seems to somehow fixed itself. Even on the machine described
in #0, the couchdb self-test runs through.
Maybe restarting the computer was the solution or updating some other
package.
I think the bug report can be closed.
