This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

Well in my case; and at installation time I have created a none root
user ID, and since this ID will come up first, for (NONE-AUTO sign on),
by one click of the mouse here and at this messy screen, then by typing
your password, and soon before typing your eighth character, you would

My computer uses the Windows bootloader, as configured in the boot.ini file.
Boot.ini calls Linux to start. Linux's bootloader Grub takes over and presents
me with a menu giving me the choice of different Linux kernels in normal or
recovery modes as well as a last opportunity to choose to
To narrow down the problem, I installed KDM.
Normal login: problems.
Recovery mode, drop to root shell, kdm start: no problems.
So GDM or KDM are not at the origin of the problem, the bug occurs
before.
Actually, you can sometimes see some graphic distorsion on the splash
screen already.
