Nevermind I used the wrapper perl app to launch the telnet with the URL
and it worked

Well I was able to get it someone working now I am able to see telnet
application in firefox applications but when I click the link nothing is
happening after I associated numerous application is there something in
particular that need I associated with this telnet://url links

Thank you goncheff , your method worked great on Firefox 3.5.5, I did not even
have to restart the browser after adding
the boolean to about:config.

I have the same issue when tried to add custom protocol handler this
way. It looks that firefox 3.5 has new style for doing this. After
playing with it a bit I found that network.protocol-handler.external and
network.protocol-handler.app are (maybe) not used anymore. Instead
network.protocol-handle
same to me. previously, "network.protocol-handler.app.telnet" method is
working for firefox 3.0.
