Hi Scott,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .
If it remains
Benjamin,
sorry for the delay, but I wasn't in the forum for a while.
Ok, I wish I could send you the trace, but as I wrote above I moved back to
Jaunty again.
Is it possible ro produce what you need just with booting from an
install-USB? I ask because I really don't want to reinstall Karmic

I can confirm this bug in my U100 as well - as soon as I tried to connect to my
hidden SID WLAN I experienced the same
problem: a red splash icon in the upper panel saying that the kernel panics.
Reproduceable, that's why I moved back to Jaunty...

AxelH,
Could you by any chance attach an apport trace of your kernel panic? You can
find directions at:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/BugDay/20090915
You will need to install the packages apport-retrace and linux-crashdump.
