I found the same problem with an Aleutia E2 (VIA Eden CX700/VX700,
openchrome), lucid, LTSP thin client.
It appears to be caused by this bug:

I have the same problem with openchrome on one karmic client and with
kde 4.3 on LTSP server. If KDE 3.5 on LTSP server it works fine. On
other ltsp client with openchrome it works with both KDE 4.3 and KDE
3.5.

OK.. wee problem related to my ignorance in configuring xorg.conf from
scratch: at least under LTSP, xorg.conf is generated on the fly when
the thin client boots up. I have created a custom xorg.conf for the
various parameters outlined in this thread, but this does not include a
ServerLayout
