I had to dpkg -i some lucid packages, after manually removing some
karmic stuff. After some trial-and-error this seems to work. It would
have been handier though if the Karmic packages were updated
automatically. I do not know whether this is possible.

reported this problem on the qemu mailing list just a few days ago.
