Could not reproduce this problem in Ubuntu 10.10, LibreOffice Calc at
the Terminal:

A possible work-around is to delete the contents of the entire row first
and then to delete the entire row afterwards.

Chris,
On my machine it takes about 40 seconds before Ooo can complete the
deletion of the row. So it looks as if Ooo hangs. If you undo the
operation (Ctrl-Z) and then retry to delete the row, it happens almost
instantaneously.
One can easily reproduce this behaviour with only 4 cells
Please see the attached screenshot- this also hangs Ooo on a second
machine I tried.
Right-click on the row-number 3 highlighted, select 'delete rows'-
hangs.
