the lenovo sl300 is a cantiga gm45 based laptop, and i get the same
behavior as others, no sound after suspend. Also, it's impossible to
rmmod snd_hda_intel after a suspend.

choosing OSS in Amarok, but ALSA should be fixed too.

OK, upgraded whole system to intrepid and I can confirm audio now works
properly after suspend on an eeepc 900. Verified that it did work before
the upgrade as well. Seems to me this bug can be closed.

Sorry for any confusion. You'll need to enable the Intrepid repository
in your sources.list file in order to install the 2.6.27 kernel.
However, since Alpha5 was released last week it might be easier to just
test using a LiveCD - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha5 .

Willing to test this but I can not find these linux-image-2.6.27-*
packages in synaptic. Running hardy, so I assume I must add a repository
with testing packages, please point me how. The above links do not
provide this info as far as I can see.

upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

I see this also with Gutsy on a Dell Inspiron E1505. OSS works fine,
but any app that is configured to use ALSA will lock up without any
obvious output, when used after a suspend/restore.

I'm facing the same problem with Ubuntu/Gutsty 7.10 in HP Pavilion
zx5000. From time to time each sound-application in use freeze on trying
to play sounds through ALSA (and there is no ESD in Gutsy). Any
solutions?

I have the same problem in Thinkpad T60p with feisty / 7.04.
After sleep/resume, USB audio works fine, but analog audio and the built-in
speakers don't.
Rhythmbox crashes if I try to play; sound preferences crash if I push 'test',
and XMMS complains
that someone else is using the sound driver.

I think I'm facing the same problem with Kubuntu 7.04 on my T60p laptop.
Reloading snd_* module would help I guess but unfortunately they are blocked by
dependencies I don't know.

has no affect.

It's not only Amarok that is affected. Also Rhythmbox or aplay freezes
on trying to play a sound.
This isn't solved in Edgy.

Using Ubuntu 6.06, Amarok 1.3.8, xine engine on a Dell Inspiron 6000 I
am having the same problem.
This is solved for me in Amarok by going to Settings, Configure Amarok,
Engine, xine engine, and changing the Output plugin from alsa to oss.
If you are not using alsa, its crashes won't make Amarok
It is not enough to restart alsa-utils, the whole system has to be restarted.
I can confirm this bug on my Dell Dimension 8300, with Dell Soundblaster Live!
