I actually won't have access to my printer for a few months, so I can't
do any testing for a while. Maybe someone else out there is having the
same problem though.

I suppose it doesn't (get to the root of the problem), but I reckon that
the first place to start would be to see if the setting is: 1) enabled,
and 2) if turning it off works. If both are true, then a dev can dig
deeper into the problem to find out why: 1) the setting is getting set,
and 2) why yo
That doesn't get to the root of the problem. The real problem is why the
OS thinks the printer is a scanner in the first place. Having Ubuntu not
run xsane when a scanner is plugged in will solve the problem, but why
does it even think it's a scanner? I guess the problem is not with
xsane, but with

Still no progress/activity on this issue since December...
I reckon that the xsane devs have simply gone walkabout. Perhaps it's time to
switch to another distro to test.

I reckon that we're just talking to ourselves... still occuring on my
system even after purging sane, xsane and xsane-common, and then
reinstalling xsane and xsane common (leaving sane uninstalled).

Weird, I've just noticed that sometimes it starts xsane and xsane

This is the part of syslog after plugging in the printer that looks
relevant, I don't see anything about it thinking its a scanner:
Nov 29 19:41:47 gabe-laptop kernel: [ 1059.521326] usb 2-1: new high speed USB
device using ehci_hcd and address 2
Nov 29 19:41:48 gabe-laptop kernel: [ 1059.653729]
Yes I realize that. However, my _hope_ is that by providing additional
information on a system that does have a printer+scanner but exibits the
same xsane startup, the dev's will be able to sort out both issues as I
suspect that they are related.
Can you check your syslog & capture the same info w
@NoOp, xsane starting when a combination printer + scanner is plugged in
I can understand, even if it is annoying, but in my case, my printer
doesn't even have a scanner!

Since upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 I too have noticed that xsane launches
automatically as soon as I turn on my Canon MP750 USB printer (which
does indeed have a scanner built in). It's pretty irritating. My lsusb

Investigating further, the problem may be a regression in Xorg's
hotplugging. It appears that when the printer is plugged in, two device
nodes in /dev/bus/usb// are created. Also, lsusb reports two new
devices when the printer is plugged in. Not sure if this is the right
behavior or not.
The two d
I should mention that I currently don't have another printer to test
this on.
