Since these are multiple design requests, I'd like you to post this on
the Ayatana mailing list IF this is still an issue. It has been over a
year and a half since you filed this bug, and if this is still an issue,
then please post this to Ayatana for discussions to continue.

Seconded. This would be much appreciated, at least as an option. And
since most IRC clients allow you a degree of control over when
notifications are sent, that seems to me a better place to throttle
notifications to a managable amount if that is a problem.
