For me, the fix doesn't work. After starting alsamixer and choosing my
external sound card (SB X-Fi Surround 5.1) it says This sound device
does not having any controls.. So pulseAudio seems to be the only way
to control my sound card. But this isn't a problem of the new sound

app as compared to what the volume control solution offered. While most
