Your patch won't work because it's a patch for
/usr/share/applications/gtodo.desktop. It is not the the same file than the one
in the source package, gtodo.desktop.in.
"X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=gtodo" is added automatically, that's why I didn't put
it in my patch.

The patch file mentioned above ("05_desktop-file.patch") fails to patch
my gtodo.desktop file.
After a little scouting around I found that my copy of gtodo.desktop is
suffering from lack of a new-line character in its last line.
I am attaching the patch that fixed my gtodo.desktop

I just got the latest Dapper (PPC) network update and twice saw a
similar message as the update was being applied (see attached log).
I was surprised to see the problem in gtodo as it didn't obviously
appear to be part of the update. Further evidence:
