Public bug reported:

After 10 seconds of silence my sound seems to sleep, when it wakes up
(when a sound plays) there is a moment of silence. Usually this is
undetectable, but unfortunately it is long enough to hide beeps.

Using: Karmic

ja...@jamie-laptop:~$ apt-cache policy alsa-base
alsa-base:
  Installed: 1.0.20+dfsg-1ubuntu5
  Candidate: 1.0.20+dfsg-1ubuntu5
  Version table:
 *** 1.0.20+dfsg-1ubuntu5 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

To reproduce:

Your machine shouldn't be making any noises. Use the command line
"beep", wait at least 10 seconds and use it again.

What happens: One beep.

What should happen: Two beeps.

If after 10 seconds I use "beep -l 1000" (a one second beep) I hear the
end of it, ie, not the whole one second beep.
