I don't think so - I've tried to stop GDM, unload radeon driver and then
load it again, but it didn't change the aperture behavior.
Moreover, when I choose the aperture value in BIOS according to what X
detected, everything was right without mangling with radeon/gart kernel
drivers loading order.
Is this related to bug#468413?

It's probably not that the aperture size is too small - when I changed
it in BIOS to 16 MB, X still tried to allocate 8 MB and failed.
