I'm not sure whether we should backport this to karmic (for a stable
release, it may well be better to leave people's workarounds in place
rather than potentially breaking them), but in any event the right way
to represent this in Launchpad is to have the main bug task Fix Released
and to have a

The problem exists even in the latest debhelper (version 7.4.8)
available in Debian Sid, so I filed a bug on the debian bug tracking
system too:

dh_installinit does not install 'package.default' if
