i don't know if it will fix it for you, but in a previous attempt to fix
it I had added
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-dv5
to my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

I have installed the backports and rebooted. Same issue speakers do not
mute while headphones are plugged in. Same running a HP DV7.
