Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

I have an issue on two machines. Both are upgrades from Jaunty. Ons is a
laptop (sometimes suspended) and one is a desktop (never suspended or
rebooted unless there is some sort of an issue).

The problem is that sound sporadically stops working, as in, no
applications can produce sound. This usually happens after prolonged
inactivity, such as machines being left overnight.

The apps such as flash videos, would run, and show progress and video,
but no sound would come. This also applies to non-firefox apps like
mplayer, which also do not produce sound.

When that happens, I would attempt to shut firefox down. It would close
all the windows, but the process would not exit, as seen in "ps
auxw|grep firefox". If I kill firefox with "kill", it finally dies.

As soon as firefox dies, as described above, the sound begins to work
again.

This is deeply embarrassing and disappointing.

I will do my utmost to help with resolving this problem, try new things
etc.

** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu)
