Faulty terminology there -- I meant to say that the deb package metadata
is incorrect, causing this issue. The correct package is (and probably
always was) available.

The correct package (which installs fine in karmic) is available on
repositories, but the deb source is invalid.
E.g. the Swedish mirror has:
