Kubuntu 64 bits is color
I have exactly the same problem with my Epson D660U: same big stripes,
yellow and red
this is with a brand new dell XPS 13, kubuntu 12.10 fresh install
to be precise: in general scan is ok for the first 2 or 3 images, and then
every other image get the bad stripes
