In lucid, the virtual terminals are logged in, however, if you log out
of the kde session indeed you cannot get back in. The way to fix this is
to edit the kdmrc file and uncomment the line with
"AutoLoginAgain=true". This will make it so that kdm tries to log you
back in on logout.

I do seem to be automatically logged in on all ttys here, by the way.
This is Ubuntu lucid.

All ttys are definitely supposed to still autologin, not just one.
