Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

i am unable to open videos in youtube.i downloaded adobe flash player
for ubuntu 8.04.But after double clicking the package,i got the error
message saying three packages not downloaded.check your network
connection or installation medium.But all this while my connection was
active.

i then went to sypnatics package manager,went to setteings>repositories and 
clicked on all the unclicked links and refreshed.I then sought out flash 
player.non-free and marked it for "reinstallation"......and applied the 
changes...then a download of 32 packages started, and i  kept getting a message 
"installing software".After that i got a dialouge box saying changes applied.
but on goin to youtube all i get i patch of black.
