Hi Timo,
(re)moving xorg.conf worked.
virtualbox installer could be buggy, but Lucid Lynx is installed since
beggining of November without problem. the cause of this problem could be
xserver xorg refreshing last night.

besides, the xserver already tries to autoload vboxvideo if it's
available. And if it isn't it'll fall back to vesa. So, try moving the
xorg.conf aside and see if it works better.
