maxademo, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If

Same issue on D945GCLF2 under Ubuntu 10.10 since upgrading from 9.10.
An init 6 after initial cold boot remediates the issue whilst powered
on.

This problem is come after upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04.

I don't know what happened, but (after update?) things are -currently-
looking a lot better. My asus still overheats from time to time (typical
for asus apperently) and then kacpid kicks in, but now, instead of
staying up there hogging my cpu, it falls back into the small cpu-usage
category.

This is also present in 10.04 server. I can confirm that maxadamo's #9
solution is a good workaround, at least on an Intel D945GCLF Atom
motherboard. Looks like a BIOS/kernel incompatibility.

looks like I finally found a solution
I removed powernowd
sudo aptitude purge powernowd
And now my laptop is not running into the high cpu usage for kacpid

I'm also having these problems on and off.
kacpid takes up to 80% and more, my temperature starts rising and reaches up to
levels of 93°.
My system is an Asus laptop M6000
currently running
Lucid Lynx
Linux 2.6.32-22-generic

Final Workaround:
I disabled in the BIOS "fan controlled from operating system".
My BIOS allows to set a fixed speed (from 50% up to 100%) or speed controlled
by operating system.
Now I have put the speed fixed to 50% and this is fixed fixed fixed.

I suspect the priority cannot be medium if you have to reboot a server.
kacpid cannot be killed and right now I didn't find a workaround.

I have just removed the service "acpi-support" and now it seems to be fixed.

I suppose the bug is on such script, because on my laptop works
properly, but on the desktop causes this problem.

Of course, booting with acpi=off fix this problem.
But it creates many other problems: cannot run compiz, console framebuffer
doesn't work, X server becomes pretty slow.
