Hello.
Unfortunately an issue still remains after kernel upgrades to versions
2.6.31-17, 2.6.31-18 and so on to 2.6.31-21.
One possibility to boot system is to use in GRUB menu.lst such record:
title Ubuntu 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-21-generic
root(hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vm

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

I can boot if I use initrd.img file from 2.6.28-17 version to load modules and
next load 2.6.31-17 kernel.
