I'm not sure from your last comment if you've tried the DRM backport
kernel - this is now in the default Lucid install, as the 2.6.32-16
kernel.
Is X still being unstable when you boot into the 2.6.32-16 kernel?
Recent daily CDs will also have this kernel, as will the Beta 1 CDs.

Tried ubuntu-bug linux and ubuntu-bug said "linux" was not a valid
package, so I'm filing it under ubuntu-bug xorg hopefullyT40 with
atx crashes frequently...even while trying to file the crash report.

Thanks for reporting this bug to help making the Intel graphics driver
better. We hear from upstream that a number of bugs (possibly including
this one) have been fixed in the newer DRM code from the 2.6.33 kernel.
I don't know if your bug is one of the ones f

This issue was reported against karmic, so can you confirm if this issue
exists with the most recent Lucid Lynx 10.04 Alpha release? ISO CD

Thanks in advance.

Ctrl-Alt-F1 for terminal session, ran ubuntu-bug xorg however the
procedure won't complete reporting without xorg running, which is the
problem.

Progress
A2 CD live won't boot, initial boot screen freezes no matter what is
tried on the linux boot line.
A1 updated to A2 level won't run any time at all unless "nomodeset" and
"vesa" are used.
A2 Alternate installed O.K., has been running! (careful! Don't update
it, it's running!)
So
Today Jan 15 tried
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install --reinstall upstart xserver-xorg-video-all
xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg
Essentially at A2 level, black screen in minutes. Unresponsive to tty.
"nomodeset" and "vesa" runs for hours.
Here's xsession errors. I didn't see anything useful in Xorg.0.log.old.
When crash occurs (using Gnome) the system goes to an immediate halt.
This is LXDE which is still running for a few minutes at least
Not sure if ubuntu-bug xorg is useful after a reboot??
Since system is dead altogether
Fourth time in a row, 2-6-32-10 crashes altogether when trying to enter
this bug note. With Jan 12 xorg update I have to boot with nomodeset
otherwise get dead black screen. Can't even ssh in. Trying to enter
this with LXDE instead of Gnome.
