Kamil,
An important part of my request was that you test against the latest
development release, which is currently 10.10. I'm keenly interested in whether
you encounter the same behavior there. Additionally, if you are willing to test
the current mainline kernel, that information is

I don't hear any crackling sound after audio playback. I hear soft
crackle when muting/unmuting (same as in 10.04), but I no longer
consider it a problem, it is very silent and recognizable only in
headphones.

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from

I'm also experiencing this. Commenting the options snd-hda-intel...
line also helps but still have the popping sound when mute/unmute.
If anyone needs more info from me to help solve this let me know.

After clean boot the mute crackle is usually very quiet (audible in
headphones only), but occasionally it also started with loud crackle.

After installing linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic
2.6.31.16.29 it still crackles on mute/unmute.

Could it be the new powersave feature that clicks for you? Try commenting out
the options snd-hda-intel line in
