I was able to acheive a resume from suspend without the screen getting locked. I did this by using "gconf-editor". I went to "Desktop-->Gnome-->Lockdown" then checked the box for "disable_lock_screen" -- Impossible to disable password after suspend-to-ram or -to-disk https://bugs.launchpad.net/b
