Kubuntu currently does not have the manpower necessary to implement this
feature as a distribution, so we are closing this report. Worry not,
though, because your wish item is still being tracked by KDE at
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=141257 . Once KDE implements this
feature,
This hasn't changed in KDE 4. The entry in remote:/ (accessible via
Network in dolphin's sidebar) still says Samba Shares.

It is true. Tell a new user he can access his/her Windows shares via
Network Folders, they will be confused. Even if they figure out how to
get to Network folders, when they see Samba Shares, they will be
confused even further.

Best thing is probably to get that done upstream instead of ubuntu only.
The desktop file is in kdebase and not kdenetwork

I followed the discussion on the kubuntu-devel irc channel and my opinion is
that the most logical description is network shares (SMB) because if you
don't have any Windows PC in your network it makes no sense that there are
windows shares.
Network shares using the NFS protocol should be

too.
