Well, it isn't an option in my BIOS. But booting using the 386 kernel works.
It is only the
686, versions higher than 2.6.15-23 that hang when trying to mount the root
file system.
The error message is regarding udevplug. There are only a few diffs in the
config files between
version 23 and
Thanks osch0001, with that change in BIOS I don't experience the problem
any longer, too.

This solves the problem for me too (How did you think about it?).
Does this change have any implications: does it reduce speed, memory,
etc. ?

If I change "Serial (ATA) mode" from "AHCI" to "Compatibility" in the
BIOS, I don't experience this problem.

Yupp, still got it in 2.6.15-26, too (on T60).
With -386 it has a delay of some seconds as osch0001 said, whereas the -686
takes minutes.

I didn't try -386 kernel, but I understand that -386 does not support
dual core. Am I right?

With the -386 kernel it hangs for about 5 or 10 seconds as opposed to 2
or 3 minutes on my X60s.

So it's fine for all of you using the -386 kernel?

For me also, the same problem still exists on 2.6.15-26.

I have the same problem here, also with a Thinkpad X60s. This looks like
an old bug was reintroduced into the kernel. I've seen the same
behaviour some time ago, it was related to the sata controller timing
out, when trying to detect disks. See point 2 in
http://lkml.org/lkml/2006/1/12/461, I don't
Hi,
same thing here. I've got a Thinkpad T60 with Intel Centrino Duo:

My / is on /dev/sda3 and ext3, my /home is on /dev/sda6 and xfs. Swap is
on /dev/sda5.
The "hanging" does not happen if booted with i386 Kerne
