The Debian changes can be safely incorporated into Ubuntu, since this is
going to be a merge, I'll provide the patch in a minute. The package
builds fine in a lucid chroot:

dpkg-deb: building package `mew-bin' in `../mew-bin_6.3-1_i386.deb'.
 dpkg-genchanges  >../mew_6.3-1_i386.changes
dpkg-genchanges: including full source code in upload
dpkg-buildpackage: full upload (original source is included)
