The information out there on the web has strongly led me to infer that mixing the use of apt-get and aptitude is a certain road to problems since they don't keep their databases in synch. That certainly makes it unnerving at best to use "apt-get source" alongside aptitude -- support for build-de

I agree that it'd be nice, if only for the fact that aptitude marks packages that are installed because of dependencies. I just did 'apt-get build-dep vlc', and it installed dozens of -dev packages. Since they were installed with apt-get though, none are marked that way, so if I want to remove them
