Had same issue,
as suggested by HenryLin,
go and edit your .kde/share/config/katerc
In my config, had replace
MenuBar=Disabled
with
MenuBar=Enabled
restart kate and that's it

Do you mean disappearing Menubar too?
My fix for it is to modify the ~/.kde/share/config/katerc file
and delete Show MenuBar settings

As a temporary work around, I've done the following.
1. Install KDE
2. Log in to KDE, and open the settings manager
3. Change icon theme
4. Log out and back into Gnome. All KDE apps now have correct icons.
The bug is still present, but at least the symptoms can be addressed
this way.
