I've found a buddy in a forum claiming that the problem is solved by
compiling the correct driver from the Atheros site:

Unfortunately I'm not an Atheros partner, so I can't download it.

I have the same problem with an ASUS EEEPC 1201NL and Ubuntu 10.10.

I have filed bug #572249 regarding my problem above. I tested the
mainline kernel as well, where the problem is still present.
I note this just in case the two problems are related.

The same LAN card is in my Eee PC 1201N. The system freezes on large
file transfers over LAN (~ a few GiB between my computers over
ssh/sftp), again with no trace of a crash anywhere in /var/log. Does
