There's no possible workaround or anything for this? To somehow let the
driver reserve a huge chunk of RAM or whatever. It's driving me beyond

Yep... this affects me too. It's incredibly annoying. Do some disk
intensive things like unpack archives and RAM cache will fill up,
crashing the driver.
