Any news on this? AFAIK it still happens, accounts are incorrectly being
seen as "online" even though they are not, like during computer standby.

This is an telepathy issue because it should be listening to the gnome-
session signals on shutdown and react to the appropriately. indicator-
session shouldn't be involved in this interact. No mater how the
session gets shutdown the telepathy behavior should be the same.
